Frisman Jackson is in his second season as the Steelers' wide receivers coach in 2023. He was hired by Pittsburgh on February 8, 2022.
In his first season with the Steelers, Jackson oversaw the development of second-round draft pick George Pickens, who caught 52 passes for 801 yards and four TDs as a rookie. Pickens' 801 receiving yards ranked fifth-most by a Steelers rookie in franchise history.
Jackson, who brings 14 years of college or NFL coaching experience to Pittsburgh, spent the previous two seasons with the Carolina Panthers (2020-21). He was their offensive passing game coordinator in '21 after he was promoted from wide receivers coach in '20. He previously coached wide receivers in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans (2017).
Under Jackson's mentorship, wide receiver DJ Moore caught 159 passes for 2,350 receiving yards and eight TDs combined in the last two seasons. His 2,350 yards receiving, and 14.8 yards/reception, are the seventh and 10th-most in the NFL over the span. Moore ranked 11th and 12th, respectively, in the NFL in receiving yards (1,157) and receptions (93) in 2021.
Jackson spearheaded a record-breaking campaign for Carolina's pass-catchers in 2020. Moore (1,193) and Robby Anderson (1,096) were one of two WR pairs in the NFL and just the fourth duo in Panthers' history to each top 1,000 yards in the same season. Moore, who also ranked third among qualified players (32+ receptions) with 18.1 yards per catch, tied for the League-lead with six receptions of at least 40 yards.
Wide receiver Curtis Samuel had a career-high 851 receiving yards and a Carolina wide receiver-record 200 rushing yards in 2020, which helped the Panthers become the first team since Arizona in 2008 to have three wide receivers surpass 1,000 scrimmage yards in the same season.
Jackson came to Carolina in 2020 after spending the previous two seasons at Baylor, where he served as the Bears' wide receivers coach in 2018, before adding the title of passing game coordinator in 2019. Baylor wide receiver Denzel Mims finished the '19 season ranked 12th in the nation in receiving TDs (12) and earned first-team All-Big 12 recognition. In '18, Jackson assisted in transfer running back Jalen Hurd's transition to wide receiver and developed him into the team's leading wideout and the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year. Hurd was drafted in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the 49ers.
Jackson spent the 2017 season as the wide receivers coach for the Titans, where he helped lead Tennessee to the AFC Divisional Round. He coached Titans wide receivers Eric Decker and Rishard Matthews as they each recorded over 50 receptions on the year.
Prior to Jackson's first year in the NFL, he spent two seasons as the wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator at Temple (2015-16). Jackson helped the Owls achieve back-to-back bowl appearances, as well as the 2016 AAC Championship.
Jackson has also coached wide receivers at N.C. State (2013-14), Northern Illinois (2012), Akron (2010-11) and Western Illinois (2008-09).
As a player, Jackson spent four years in the NFL as a wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns (2002-05). Over that stretch, he appeared in 34 games, caught 40 passes for 490 yards and one TD. Jackson played three seasons at Northern Illinois as a quarterback (1997-99), before finishing his college career as a wide receiver at Western Illinois (2001).
