Playoff expansion approved by owners

During a virtual meeting of NFL owners on Tuesday, items involving a contingency plan to expand the playoff field from 14 to 16 teams, as well as a plan to reward teams that lose minority coaches or front office executives to head coaching or general manager jobs with other teams both were passed

The expanded playoffs plan was passed unanimously but only would be implemented if COVID-19 forces the cancellation of meaningful games, games that could not be rescheduled in a possible Week 18 scenario.
