More than 600 staff and student representatives from Southwestern Pennsylvania schools attended the 21st annual Caring Team for Children Kickoff Luncheon, which begins an annual campaign to get schools involved in efforts to support grieving children and launch planning for Children's Grief Awareness Day, which is on Nov. 19, 2009.
Caring Team co-captains Hines Ward, Max Starks and Sally Wiggin were on-hand to motivate the students to raise awareness for the Highmark Caring Place, A Center for Grieving Children, Adolescents and their Families located in downtown Pittsburgh and in Warrendale.
"We know that one child in 20 will have a parent die before he or she graduates from high school," said Terese Vorsheck, Highmark Caring Place Director. "This statistic alone tells us how needed grief programs are for children and how much students can help raise awareness for the needs of their fellow students and friends who are grieving the death of a loved one."
The Caring Team is all about kids helping kids. The Caring Team supports children grieving the death of a loved one through the Caring Place.
