PRO (25-2/1-0): Shamarko Thomas was drafted by the Steelers with the first of two selections in the fourth round (79thoverall) of the 2013 NFL Draft.

2014 (11-0): Shamarko Thomas saw action on special teams in 11 games during the regular season…also saw action in his postseason debut vs. Baltimore in the AFC Wild Card Game…inactive Weeks 6-8 due to a left hamstring injury...inactive Weeks 10-11 due to a right hamstring injury…totaled two special teams tackles 12/14 at Atlanta, and one, 9/21 at Carolina, 12/7 at Cincinnati and 12/28 vs. Cincinnati.

 

  • 9/7 vs. Cleveland: Left the game in the fourth quarter with a left Achilles injury.
  • 9/21 at Carolina: Forced his first career fumble on special teams that was recovered in the end zone for a touchdown by S Rob Golden.
  • 10/5 at Jacksonville: Left the game in the second quarter with a left hamstring injury and did not return.
  • 11/2 vs. Baltimore: Left the game due to a hamstring injury in the fourth quarter and did not return.

2013 (14-2): Shamarko Thomas saw action in 14 games, making two starts in his rookie season…inactive due to an ankle injury 11/17 vs. Detroit and 11/24 at Cleveland...totaled 22 tackles on defense and seven on special teams (two, 12/22 at Green Bay, and one, 9/8 vs. Tennessee, 9/29 vs. Minnesota, 10/20 vs. Baltimore, 11/3 at New England and 12/15 vs. Cincinnati).

  • 9/8 vs. Tennessee: Made his NFL debut…recorded his first career tackle on defense and on special teams.
  • 9/22 vs. Chicago: Made his first career NFL start.
  • 11/3 at New England: Totaled a career-high eight tackles.
  • 11/10 vs. Buffalo: Left the game in the second quarter with a left ankle injury and did not return.

COLLEGE: Shamarko Thomas started 39-of-48 games at strong safety…posted 263 tackles, 16.5 TFLs and four sacks…gained 27 yards on two interception returns and deflected four other passes…forced four fumbles and recovered three others…majored in child and family studies and was enrolled in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics. 2012: Named All-American third-team by The NFL Draft Report and the team co-captain was a consensus All-Big East Conference first team selection, in addition to earning Eastern College Athletic Conference Division I All-Star recognition…started all 13 games, as he led the team with a career-high 88 tackles, added a six-yard sack and 3.5 TFLs…ranked third in the league with three forced fumbles and had one fumble recovery…gained 27 yards on the first two interceptions for his career. 2011: Named All-Big East second-team by The NFL Draft Report, as he ranked third on the squad with 67 tackles…started 10 games…added three TFLs, three QB pressures and one pass breakup. 2010: Started nine of the 13 games he appeared in at strong safety…ranked fourth on the team with 67 tackles…added two sacks and 3.5 TFLs…deflected three passes and recorded one fumble recovery. 2009: A member of ESPN.com’s All-Big East Conference freshman team…played in 12 games, starting seven contests…registered 41 tackles, a 10-yard sack and 6.5 TFLs…also forced one fumble and had one fumble recovery.

PERSONAL:

Attended Ocean Lakes High School (Virginia Beach, Va.)…was a two-sport standout, excelling in track and football…led the team with 77 tackles and five interceptions as a junior…as a senior, was named All-State, All-Region and All-Tidewater first-team, as the two-time All-District selection would go on to set school records in career tackles, interceptions and defensive touchdowns…in his final season, recorded a team-high 102 tackles, six interceptions, 11 pass deflections and one blocked field goal as a team captain…led the squad to a 12-1 record on the way to garnering squad defensive MVP honors…concluded his gridiron prep career by playing for the United States team that won the 2009 IFAF Junior World Championship…in track, earned All-State honors competing in the 100-meter dash and as the anchor of the 4X100 relay that placed seventh in Virginia…son of Abdul Shabazz and Ebeth Shabazz…married to Estephania…has three children, daughters Chrissy and Mikki, and son, Shamarko, Jr…has two adopted brothers, Walik and Altariq…Full name: Shamarko Lanell Thomas.
