Steelers re-sign Johnson

Posted Sep 12, 2017

The Steelers have re-signed LB Steven Johnson and released LB L.J. Fort.

The Steelers roster continues to be a work in progress, as the team re-signed linebacker Steven Johnson

Johnson, who is entering his sixth NFL season, originally signed with the Steelers as an unrestricted free agent in 2016. He signed a one-year contract this offseason.

In his first five seasons, Johnson has played in 63 games, starting five, and has 63 career tackles.

It’s been an up and down few weeks for Johnson. He was released when the team reduced the mandatory roster to 53 players on Sept. 2. Two days later he was re-signed on Sept. 4, when Cameron Sutton was placed on injured reserve and Jordan Dangerfield waived/injured. Johnson was then released on Sept. 9 when Le’Veon Bell was activated from the exempt list.

To make room on the roster for Johnson the team terminated the contract of linebacker L.J. Fort.
