The Steelers signed Cameron Sutton, one of their third-round draft picks.

The Steelers signed third-round draft pick Cameron Sutton to a four-year contract. Sutton was the first of two third-round picks the team had.

Sutton, a cornerback from Tennessee, is the seventh of the team’s eight players from the 2017 NFL Draft to sign.

Sutton started all four seasons at Tennessee, and is the school’s all-time leader with 37 passes defensed.

“Cameron is a press corner who plays close to the line of scrimmage, but he can also play off,” said defensive backs coach Carnell Lake. “He does a good job of mirroring the wide receiver. He knows how to cover, stays close, and that is something we have been looking for.”

Sutton is one of two cornerbacks the Steelers selected this year, also taking Brian Allen in the fifth round, and he is ready to take advantage of the opportunity he has ahead of him.

“Just to have the opportunity to be with such a historic and prestigious organization, it means a lot,” said Sutton. “I’m really going to make the most of it.

“I’m a guy who’s about his business and just ready to get to work. I’m definitely going to make the most of every opportunity that they give me out there on the field and take advantage of that.”
