Week 6 Injury Report (Chiefs)

Posted Oct 13, 2017

A look at player injuries and practice participation for Week 6.

The Steelers expect to get one offensive lineman back this week, but the status of another one is up in the air.

Ramon Foster missed practice all week with a back injury, and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.

If Foster can't go, B.J. Finney could step in at his left guard spot.

"That is something for Coach (Mike) Tomlin," said Finney after practice on Friday when asked if he expects to start. "My mind frame is always be ready, always be prepared, and when they need me, they need me. I need to be ready to answer the call. I take care of my business, stay in my lane, don't think about anything else and keep my preparation the same."

Finney said he got a lot of snaps in practice this week, something that will benefit him if he gets the call.

"That is the great thing about having a lot of reps, you are comfortable, and you know the techniques of the guys around you instead of just being thrown into it," said Finney.

After being sidelined for three weeks with a hamstring injury, it looks like Marcus Gilbert will return to his spot at right tackle this week.

Gilbert has been a full participant in practice all week, is not on the status report and flat said he is ready to be back out there.

"I have been itching and waiting to get back out there, and every little chance I got, I took advantage of it," said Gilbert. "The coaches gave me the choice this week to really let me go and unleash myself, and I'm feeling really good and I'm excited to get back out there."

The timing couldn't be any better as the Steelers take on the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, the NFL's only remaining undefeated team at 5-0.

"I need to get back on this moving train," said Gilbert. "I'm one of the pieces that need to be out there for our guys. This week is going to be a turning point for a lot of the guys out here. The games that we're supposed to win, we didn't do so, and I think a lot of guys are a little on edge. And then me coming back, I feel a little urgency. I missed a lot of time, and I feel like I have really fresh legs. I'm just ready to be back out there with my guys."

Gilbert's return would give the Steelers normalcy and depth on the line, allowing Chris Hubbard to return to his role of a blocking tight end after filling in for Gilbert the last three weeks.

"He's done a great job but just moving him around, even at the tight end position, helps us big time," said Gilbert. "Just to move those big bodies out there, it's critical."

Gilbert practiced at the beginning of the previous two weeks, but then missed practice at the end of each week, keeping him sidelined. He said the key was being cautious and not risking long-term issues.

"I just wanted to see how my hamstring was going to respond," said Gilbert. "It didn't respond the way I wanted it to, so I didn't want to push the issue and have a major setback. I think I took the right approach."

The only other two players listed on the injury report this week were Maurkice Pouncey (hamstring) and Ryan Shazier (quadriceps), who were both full participants in practice on Thursday and Friday and are not on the status report for the game.

Here is the current injury report for the Steelers' Week 6 game at Kansas City.
