Week 16 Injury Report (Texans)

Posted Dec 23, 2017

A look at player injuries and practice participation for Week 16.

The Steelers will be without Antonio Brown on Monday when they take on the Houston Texans on Christmas Day, after he was ruled out earlier this week with a lower leg injury.

With Brown out of the lineup, other receivers will be called upon to step up, and they will be ready.

"We will have multiple guys trying to fill that spot," said Ben Roethlisberger. "We have guys that are excited, willing to try and fill those shoes. I think Justin (Hunter) is going to be one, Martavis (Bryant) will do some stuff, and JuJu (Smith-Schuster). Everyone really is going to have to step their game up, that includes me. I am going to have to be better.

With Brown out of the lineup, Hunter will likely be active on Monday, and he is looking forward to the opportunity.

"It means me getting a helmet, being on the field," said Hunter. "You never know what is going to happen on game day. If the ball comes my way, I want to make a play.

"We have a lot of good guys. One man is down, means next is up. We have a lot of good guys to spread the ball around to. I feel like we can make things happen out there. We just have to hold it down and make sure everything is running smoothly."

Ramon Foster missed practice on Thursday with a concussion, was limited on Friday, and did not practice on Saturday. He is listed as questionable for Monday's game.

Coty Sensabaugh was added to the injury report on Friday with a shoulder injury and was limited in practice that day only. Sensabaugh was a full participant on Saturday, but is listed as questionable for the game.

There is good news on the injury front, though. Joe Haden was a full participant in practice all week and looks primed to return to the lineup after sitting out since he fractured his fibula against the Colts on Nov. 12.

"I feel a lot better," said Haden. "I feel like I have had good days of practice. I am ready to go. I am for sure ready to play. I'm just excited to be back out there, making plays."

Defensive coordinator Keith Butler knows having Haden back would be a big boost to the defense, and it would help to get him some playing time before the postseason.

"Just think about how our defense was before and how our defense was after," said Butler of missing Haden. "That is all you have to do. Joe is a big time player. He is definitely a number one corner. You want him on your team. He wants to be on this team.

"I don't know if he has ever been to the playoffs. This will be his first time to experience it. He has to get ready for it. There are a lot of parts to the season. The first part everybody is trying to make the team. Then the start of the season is a high because you are hoping for a good season. Then you get in the middle of the season where you are trying to win games. Then the last part is when you pick it up. All of these are stages of adrenaline, thinking faster, and trying a little bit harder. As you finish the season you get in the playoffs and every game you play, the intensity raises. That is something Joe hasn't experienced yet and he will when we get in the playoffs."

In addition, Vance McDonald looks ready to return to the lineup after missing the Patriots game with a shoulder injury. McDonald was previously hobbled by an ankle injury, and his return can do nothing but help the passing game.

"It helps whenever the team is as good as it is, but you want to be out there so bad and help contribute to the team success," said McDonald. "When you have flashes of it, then you are battling another thing, and another thing, it's frustrating individually."

McDonald said his past injuries, "won't be an issue," and he is ready for the stretch run.

"You always want to be playing your best football going into it," said McDonald. "I think we're capable of doing that."

In addition, Tyler Matakevich, who played against the Patriots despite coming off a shoulder injury, was also a full participant in practice all week and is ready to roll.

Here is the current injury report for the Steelers' Week 16 game at Houston.
