Steelers inactives for game vs. Jaguars

After missing practice on Thursday and Friday it comes as no surprise that Marcus Gilbert is on the inactive list as the Steelers take on the Jaguars at Heinz Field.

Gilbert has been hampered by a nagging hamstring injury, this being the third straight week he is inactive.

With Gilbert out, Chris Hubbard will once again get the start at right tackle. "He has been doing an excellent job," said Maurkice Pouncey. "He is playing multiple positions, guard, tackle, tight end. It's not as easy as it looks. He is an accountable player, goes out there and gets his job done and works his butt off. I respect him a lot.

"He is football smart. That is the good thing about him. That is why he can play multiple positions. He locks in and gets his guy. There are different spaces when you play different positions. When you are at tackle there is more space for guys to beat you, when you are at tight end you can really block guys and hone in on them. It's special what he can do. It adds value to him."

Also inactive again this week is Eli Rogers. Rogers sat last week against the Ravens as well, after a fumble on a punt return the week before. Justin Hunter will be active.

"He put the ball on the ground the other week in the punt return game, one of his chief roles," said Tomlin. "That is one of the chief reasons he is a participant. I wanted to give him a week off from that and re-establish some good fundamentals in that area. That provided an opportunity for Justin Hunter. When you took punt return off his menu that opened the discussion of who added more value in that matchup between him and Hunter."

Tomlin did say, though, that Rogers will have an opportunity to earn back his role.

"I told him it's not a firing, it's a re-centering," said Tomlin on Tuesday. "He will be given an opportunity like everyone else is. Decisions that we made a week ago were for that game and putting us in the best position to win that game. I am open to roles changing and evolving as we prepare this week."

William Gay will also be inactive for the second straight week, even though he practiced all week. Also inactive are Josh Dobbs, Brian Allen, Jerald Hawkins and Vince Williams.
