A memorable experience for Nix

The last week has been a dream for Roosevelt Nix, doing two things he loves, traveling and teaching football.

Nix is among a group of current and former NFL players taking part in the American Football without Barriers (AFWB) camp, visiting Portugal to teach football to those with a desire to learn more about the game, as well as getting to see the area and do community outreach.

“This is just a great thing,” said Nix. “These guys just want to play football. Their footwork is ridiculous playing all of that soccer. They are learning quickly.”

This is the second year that Nix has joined the group, which includes former teammate DeAngelo Williams, to host free camps to develop American football in other countries. The camps help support football clubs and leagues in those countries, while encouraging sportsmanship and physical activity.

“I think last year was an eye-opening experience that told me I want to keep doing it and being a part of it,” said Nix. “I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. It’s a great crowd, a great base of athletic ability. This is eye-opening too.

“The love of wanting to learn. People halfway across the world want to learn to play American football. Just being able to teach a little bit of what I know, and they will never forget that.”
