Timmons is Digest Player of Week

Posted Oct 13, 2013

LAWRENCE TIMMONS
Inside Linebacker

It was an imperfect performance by the Steelers against the New York Jets, albeit one that was good enough to produce a victory. So too was it a series of imperfect performances by many of the Steelers who contributed so significantly to the win.

Antonio Brown caught nine passes for 86 yards and completed one for 15 more, but he dropped a would-be touchdown pass in the end zone. Emmanuel Sanders caught a touchdown pass, but he fumbled – yet recovered – in a critical stage of the fourth quarter. Ryan Clark led the team with eight tackles, and his interception was the team’s first takeaway of the season, but he dropped another would-be interception that hit him right in the chest. Kelvin Beachum gave the Steelers their best all-around game at left tackle all season, but he was flagged twice for holding

And so, the Steelers Digest Player of the Week is Lawrence Timmons, who had six tackles, made several big hits, and made the interception at the Steelers’ 2-yard line late in the fourth quarter that went a long way toward icing the team’s first win of the season.

Also considered were Brown, Sanders, Clark, Beachum, Ben Roethlisberger, who completed 23-of-30 for 264 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions; Cam Heyward, who had two tackles and some decent pressure on the passer in his first start of the season; and Shaun Suisham, who was 4-for-4 in field goals but did have one of his kickoffs go out of bounds.
