Steelers ready for games to begin

Posted Aug 7, 2013

After almost two weeks of going against each other, Steelers’ players are looking forward to facing the New York Giants on Saturday night in the preseason opener at Heinz Field.

“We’re excited,” said tight end David Paulson. “It’s always fun to go out and play against someone else. We have been hitting each other for a while.

“We have done a lot of live stuff in camp. It will be good to see another color out there.”

The Steelers went through live contact drills almost from the time they put the pads on, something that is different than past camps. Many feel it will be a benefit when game action begins this week.

“I am ready for it,” said running back Isaac Redman, who is in a battle for the starting running back job. “I am ready to get hit by someone other than our teammates. Our defense is no joke when they come out there for the run period.”

Game day is a nice change of pace for the players, who will have two full weeks of camp practice in, plus an entire offseason, before kickoff on Saturday night.

“I am excited to go against someone else other than our guys,” said receiver Antonio Brown. “Camp can get boring going against the same guys every day. I am looking forward to something different.”

It will be the first time Steelers’ fans have an opportunity to see the team’s rookie class in action, and the newcomers are anxious to put on the uniform.

“I can’t wait to run out there, be in a Steelers uniform in front of people,” said running back Le’Veon Bell. “It’s something I have always dreamed about.”
