The Steelers re-signed long snapper/linebacker Matt Stewart to their preseason roster, the team announced today. Financial terms of the one-year deal were not released.
Stewart (6-3, 236) signed with the Steelers this year as a free agent on June 7, but was released on July 30. He was originally drafted as a linebacker by the Atlanta Falcons in the fourth round of the 2001 NFL Draft out of Vanderbilt.
A seven-year veteran, Stewart played in 15 games as a rookie and 16 games the following season for the Falcons at linebacker. He played four seasons in Atlanta (2001-04) and also spent time on the Cleveland Browns’ active roster from 2005-07. Stewart spent time in training camp with in the Arizona Cardinals (2008) and Dallas Cowboys (2009) before being released. He has totaled 355 tackles and eight sacks during his NFL career.
