Steelers Agree To Terms With Byron Leftwich

Posted Apr 26, 2012

The Steelers have agreed to terms with veteran quarterback Byron Leftwich on a one-year contract, the team announced today. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Leftwich was originally drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the first round (7th overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft out of Marshall. He spent his first four seasons with Jacksonville before spending a season with Atlanta (2007) and Tampa Bay (2009), and three with the Steelers (2008, 2010-‘11).

Leftwich has played in six games for Pittsburgh, completing 26-of-43 passes for 345 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions and a passer rating of 101.4. He missed all of the 2011 season after suffering an arm injury during the preseason that landed him on the Reserve/Injured list on September 2, 2011.

In his first nine years in the NFL, Leftwich started 49-of-55 games played and accumulated 10,260 passing yards and 58 touchdowns with a passer rating of 79.7.
