Steelers 2012 Season Chronicled In Highlight Film

Posted May 30, 2013

The story of the Pittsburgh Steelers 2012 season was retold today when the team unveiled its annual season highlight film, “Uphold the Tradition,” at a special screening at Heinz Field.

The film, which premiered in the East Club Lounge at Heinz Field, details the Steelers’ 2012 campaign, which was the team’s 80th season in the National Football League. The team showed heart and determination, and battled through numerous injuries to key players throughout the 2012 campaign, ultimately finishing with an 8-8 record.

The film showcases the Steelers and their top-ranked defense. Pittsburgh led the NFL in total defense and pass defense, and it finished second in rush defense. By leading the league in total defense, the Steelers became the first team in NFL history to lead the league in net yards allowed in 10 different seasons. Overall the Steelers defense finished in the top-five in 10 different statistical categories.

Viewers were also witnesses to the strong performances made by many Steelers last season. For the 12th straight season and the 21st time in the last 23 seasons, multiple Steelers were selected to the Pro Bowl, including Heath Miller and Maurkice Pouncey. Miller was named to his second Pro Bowl, and he became the first tight end in team history to be named Steelers’ MVP. Pouncey became the first center in NFL history to be selected to a Pro Bowl in each of his first three seasons.

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had one of his best seasons statistically despite missing three games due to a shoulder injury. He threw for at least 3,200 yards for the fifth straight season, had the second-most passing touchdowns of his career and threw the second fewest interceptions of his career. Roethlisberger also became the franchise’s all-time passing yards leader in Week 6 at Tennessee.

“Uphold the Tradition” was produced by Bethel Park-native John Weiss of NFL Films, his 23rd Steelers highlight project. KDKA Radio’s Larry Richert narrates the video, while the Steelers broadcast team of Bill Hillgrove and former Steelers Tunch Ilkin and Craig Wolfley are featured in radio calls of game action.
