December 22, 1974, AFC Divisional Playoff Game (Three Rivers Stadium)

Steelers 32, Bills 14

The Steelers trailed 7-3 at the end of the first quarter but erupted for 26 second quarter points to take a commanding lead at halftime. RB Franco Harris finished with 74 yards rushing and three rushing touchdowns. Pittsburgh’s defense held RB O.J. Simpson, who was named first-team All-NFL, to his second-lowest rushing total of the season, 49 yards. The victory propelled the Steelers into the AFC Championship where they beat the Oakland Raiders, and then to their first Super Bowl victory over the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IX.

 


January 6, 1996, AFC Divisional Playoff Game (Three Rivers Stadium)

Steelers 40, Bills 21

Pittsburgh raced to an early 20-0 lead but Buffalo would end up cutting the lead, 26-21. The Steelers though would pull away late, thanks to two rushing touchdowns by rookie RB Bam Morris. Morris finished with 106 rushing yards and two scores. The Steelers defense picked off future Hall of Famer Jim Kelly three times and held the Bills to 250 total net yards. The Steelers beat the Indianapolis Colts the following week in the AFC Championship game and represented the AFC in Super Bowl XXX.


September 3, 1978 (Rich Stadium)

Steelers 28, Buffalo 17

The Steelers kicked off their 1978 season with a trip to Buffalo where they beat the Bills 28-17. Pittsburgh led 14-0 at halftime and 21-0 early in the fourth quarter. QB Terry Bradshaw threw for 217 yards and three scores and the Steelers running backs totaled 146 rushing yards and two scores. The Steelers would win their first seven games that season and finished 14-2. Pittsburgh marched on to the Super Bowl to face the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl XIII. The Steelers would win 35-31 for their third Super Bowl of the 1970s.
