Brown is Digest Player of Week

Posted Nov 17, 2013

ANTONIO BROWN
Wide Receiver

The NFL’s leading receiver was on display today at Heinz Field, and he had himself a very productive afternoon. And just to be clear, the NFL’s leading receiver does not wear a Detroit Lions uniform.

“We’ve got a big time wideout of our own,” said Coach Mike Tomlin. “Not a lot was written and said about him, of course, leading up to the game. But we think he is capable of affecting the outcome of games, much like their guy.”

Antonio Brown came into this weekend’s action with 67 catches, two more than A.J. Green of the Cincinnati Bengals, and what he did against the Lions certainly did little to tarnish his status. Brown caught seven passes for 147 yards (21.0 average), and included in those were touchdowns of 34 and 47 yards. On the 34-yard touchdown, Brown broke a couple of tackles to get into the end zone, and on the 47-yard score he out-ran two different Detroit defensive backs to get across the goal line.

Antonio Brown is the Steelers Digest Player of the Week.

Also considered were David DeCastro, and if it’s unusual for a guard to be mentioned so prominently here, it’s also unusual for Ndamukong Suh to go an entire game without marking, i.e., no tackles, no assists, no sacks, no pressures, and DeCastro was handling him one-on-one for most of the game; Ben Roethlisberger, who operated out of the no-huddle throughout the afternoon and completed 29-of-45 for 367 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions; Will Allen, who had nine tackles and had a hand in two takeaways by recording an interception and forcing a fumble that Lawrence Timmons recovered; Jason Worilds, who had seven tackles, including one for loss, plus a sack and four hits on the quarterback; and Cameron Heyward, who had six tackles and two passes defensed.
