Brown: 'I was lucky to be a part of it'

Posted Apr 28, 2014

Meeting Steelers’ receiver Antonio Brown was part of a grand prize package for a local trading card collector.

Steelers’ receiver Antonio Brown never collected football trading cards as a kid, but now that he is in the NFL he understands what they mean, keeping his own cards for a collection.

On Sunday, Brown learned a little bit more about trading card collecting from Aaron Kellington of Pittsburgh’s Oakdale area, who was one of the lucky grand prize winners in the 2013 Panini NFL Player of the Day Promotion. Brown spent the day at a private party at Kellington’s house, tossing around a football and posing for pictures. They also visited Sports Cards Etc where Kellington buys a lot of his cards, and Brown signed autographs for store patrons.

“As a Steelers fan and big collector this is an exciting opportunity for me and my kids to meet one of the top Steelers players up close and in person,” said Kellington.  “I think it’s fantastic that Panini gives back to its customers with these types of unique experiences.”

Kellington was one of more than 150,000 NFL card collectors who participated in the contest, and Brown was thrilled to be a part of his grand prize experience.

“I was excited to be able to spend time with Aaron and his family,” said Brown. “I wish I would have collected cards as a kid, and maybe even have gotten a chance to win something like this. It was great to see some of his collection. It was a huge deal, and I was lucky to be a part of it.”
