LE’VEON BELL
Running Back

There were a lot of heroes for the Steelers throughout what turned out to be a 19-16 win over the Baltimore Ravens at Heinz Field. Start with the offensive tackles – Kelvin Beachum and Guy Whimper – neither of whom was a starter when the season began but who together held Terrell Suggs and Elvis Dumervil to 1.5 sacks. There was Lawrence Timmons, who finished with 17 tackles. There was LaMarr Woodley, who had four tackles, a sack, two pressures, and a pass defensed. There was William Gay, who had three tackles and two passes defensed, both of which occurred in the end zone. And there was Shaun Suisham, who was 4-for-4 in field goals, including the one from 42 yards out that was the difference on the scoreboard.

But then there was Le’Veon Bell, who finished with 93 yards rushing on 19 carries against a Ravens defense that came into the game tied for seventh in the NFL against the run. Bell did it as a tailback, and he also did it taking snaps in the Wildcat, the first time the Steelers ever have employed that formation.

Bell was the driving force behind a Steelers running attack that totaled 141 yards and averaged 4.9 per attempt against the Ravens, and the team desperately needed the running attack to win last Sunday.

As a result, Bell is the Steelers Digest Player of the Week.
