to Recognize 25th Anniversary of Fourth Super Bowl Championship with
Weekend of Events
PITTSBURGH—The Pittsburgh Steelers
will celebrate the 25th anniversary of their 1979 Super Bowl team
with a weekend of activities that will culminate with a halftime ceremony during
the Nov. 7 game against intrastate-rival Philadelphia Eagles in which members of
the Super Bowl XIV team will be
honored.
The Super Bowl XIV
championship team captured the Steelers’ fourth NFL championship in six seasons
and became the only team in NFL history to capture consecutive titles on two
different occasions.
“This celebration marks a
significant period in Steelers history,” said team chairman Dan Rooney. “We were the first team to win four
Super Bowls, and we want to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the
Super Bowl XIV championship for the organization, players and all our great
fans. The activities surrounding
the game will give the fans an opportunity to enjoy in the
celebration.”
The weekend-long
celebration begins Friday, Nov. 5 with the team’s annual fashion show at the
Hilton Pittsburgh.
Benefiting the Thomas E.
Starzl Transplantation Institute at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center
and the Cancer Caring Center and presented by 84 Lumber, Steelers Style 2004
features Pittsburgh Steelers players and their families, who will model fashions
from some of Pittsburgh's premier boutiques, such as Adornments, Canadian Furs,
eb Pepper, Maxalto, Pamar, Pittsburgh Jeans Company, Talbots and Venetia’s City
Boutique as well as their own "personal style." .
Steelers guard Alan
Faneca and defensive end Kimo von Oelhoffen are serving as co-captains for the
event, which includes a reception, dinner and fashion show. Tickets are $125 per person.
Saturday night, Nov. 6,
the Steelers will host the Taste of the Steelers, at 6
p.m., at the Heinz Field West
Club, featuring team members from the 1979 Super Bowl champions. Patrons can sample culinary delights
with a football theme from the Big Burrito Group and bid on one-of-a kind
treasures and Steelers sports memorabilia.
Proceeds also benefit the Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute at
the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and the
Cancer
Caring
Center.
Participating Big Burrito
restaurants are Casbah, Eleven, Kaya, Mad Mex, Soba and
Umi.
Some of the items
available in the live auction include a trip to Super Bowl XXXIX and trip for
two to all 2005 Steelers’ away games.

More than 35 players from
the Super Bowl XIV team will be honored during gameday festivities, which
include a 1979 season timeline video and a special halftime Jumbotron
presentation featuring members of the Super Bowl XIV team. All players in attendance from that
championship team will be introduced at halftime.
The Super Bowl XIV
championship team was the first team in NFL history to win four Super Bowl
titles (IX, X, XIII and XIV).
